How great it is to pack a small travel bag and head to the beach…a long weekend on the Eastern Shore has so many options–from the popular Bethany Beach, the night life of Dewey Beach, or the stable and always fun Rehoboth Beach.
One of my favorites happens to be Cape Henlopen near Lewes, Delaware. Cape Henlopen is a little out of the way–no hustle or bustle–but a peaceful and calm inlet to the Atlantic Ocean that allows you to relax with nature and offers a safe swimming area without the worries of big waves or riptides. Because the water is calm, you have the opportunity to kayak and paddle board along the shoreline and take in the beautiful surroundings of the Cape.
Take a break from the sun and sea and walk or bike to the historic town of Lewes, Delaware just a mile or so from the beach. Walk the quaint streets and little shops and pop into one of Lewes’ favorite ice-cream shops! If you happen to be there early enough you can catch the farmer’s market and stock up on locally grown vegetables and fruit. Nothing tastes better than fresh homegrown food in your summer dishes!
